Karen Mitchell

Role: Principal and Chief Executive

Karen is the Principal and Chief Executive of Aylesbury College. Karen has a strong leadership and management background in FE holding a number of senior positions including Vice Principal and Director of Quality. Prior to her time in FE Karen worked as a nurse practitioner and manager for 17 years in the NHS.

Karen is a passionate supporter of inclusive vocational and academic education. Her focus is on leading an outstanding student experience which prepares students of all ages and abilities to realise their ambition and achieve long term success in work and life. She strongly believes that FE should be at the heart of the community, driving economic and social success.

Karen chairs the LASER Awarding Body Quality Committee and is a Trustee on the LASER Board. She chairs the Local Strategic Partnership and is a Board member of the Bucks UTC. A member of the Women’s Leadership Network Steering Committee and a mentor and coach for aspiring leaders. Karen holds a range of qualifications, including a Masters Degree in Leadership and Management.


Jo Whistler

Role: Deputy Principal Corporate Services


Jo’s key responsibilities include Finance, MIS, IT, Estates and Capital Developments. Jo has held a number of senior positions in a variety of organisations including further and higher education and the NHS. Prior to joining Aylesbury College, Jo was a previous Head of Finance at Barnfield College in Luton. Jo is a Certified Chartered Accountant and holds an MBA and BSc in Accounting and Computing.


Fiona Morey

Role: Vice Principal Learning and Quality

Fiona comes to Aylesbury College from Abingdon and Witney where she was the Asst. Principal. Fiona spearheaded changing students timetables to be more in line with employment. This work-ready approach gave students the discipline of a 9.00 to 5.00 environment three days per week, leaving time for volunteer or work placement and independant study. At Aylesbury College, Fiona is Vice Principal for Learning and Quality.


Tim Keighley

Role: Executive Director of Engagement and Business Development


Following a career in the leisure industry where Tim owned his own business, he began his career in Further Education teaching adult returners Maths. Tim’s 20 years’ experience in FE covers all levels of vocational and work based learning programmes as well as Apprenticeships. He is very passionate about work placed training and is able to understand business needs though the experience of owning his own business. Tim will be focused on developing a work based curriculum that meets the Further Education agenda and the needs of local businesses, including bespoke training courses, legislative training and work placed learning including Apprenticeships and Traineeships




Role: Executive Director People Engagement

Annette's key responsibilities at the College include recruitment, reward and retention, performance management as well as equality and diversity. She is also the People Engagement Director for Bucks New University. Previously, Annette held a number of HR Director level appointments in organisations including Tesco Stores Ltd, Dixons Stores Group, Axa UK and HSBC. Annette has an MSc in Organisation Development and Personal Development, BA Hons in Business Studies, and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management.


Tony Pimm

Role: Director of International

Tony’s background is in Sales and Marketing having worked for IBM in both disciplines for 15 years. Originally working in the public sector (Taxation in the former HM Revenue & Customs) Tony moved to IBM where he held positions in Sales and Sales Management, and later in Marketing and new business development.  Periods spent in the USA and SEA leading a Services Solutions team added further valuable International experience. Tony has run his own business and most recently worked at Wiltshire College to establish their International offering, leaving in January to join Bucks and Aylesbury College under the new BEST initiative.
