Special course features:
The College has very successfully run this course for a number of years with most previous learners gaining the required full certification. Learners are offered full support on a one to one basis from the course tutor in an informal environment. Learners are also encouraged to support each other. Emphasis is on the use of word processing to complete portfolio units. It is anticipated the course will move to an all electronic portfolio in the near future.
Time commitment:
30 weeks. Learners are expected to complete most of the work within their own time as and when convenient to them but formal sessions/surgeries are available one evening per week for the full duration of the course.
Assessment:
Formative assessment of units is on an informal basis where ongoing guidance is by the tutor as and when submitted during the course. Summative Assessment takes place when the learner has progressed individual units to the standard required and submitted them to the tutor.
Progression:
On successful completion, the college will apply for full certification from City and Guilds on the learners behalf. It is strongly recommended that on completion of this qualification, learners progress and gain the 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations and the 2391 Test, inspection and Certification qualifications.
Careers:
Gaining full Certification and Accreditation as a fully qualified electrician enables candidates to gain employment at full JIB rates. Dependant on personal goals, learners may progress to positions of managers within a company or start their own business as qualified and accredited electricians.
