ESOL Skills for Life

"Don't give up on learning - Structure your studies and enjoy the ride."
- Why did you choose to study at Buckinghamshire College Group?
Aylesbury College was the only local educational institution which was offering ESOL courses which were, back then, the main English proficiency qualification recognised in the UK for non-native speakers.
- Why did you choose this course and what were your ambitions at the time?
I chose those courses because I wanted to enrol onto University and I needed to improve my English skills. Initially, there was not a IELTS prep course in 2013 and that is why I enrolled onto the ESOL Entry 3 Course. Back then, I really wanted to improve my English skills and advance into higher education.
- What did you enjoy the most about your course and your time at the College?
I really like the tutor who was supportive since our first meeting. I have nice memories of group lessons and the atmosphere was friendly and joyful. I was very surprised by the range of courses that the college offered, the facilities were equipped with professional tools for any trade course and the garage was impressive. Finally, the college's canteen and library were the gems.
- What experiences and skills from your course have been most valuable in your journey so far?
Communication skills and language learning techniques definitely have been the most transferable skills so far. Resilience is also another survival skill that is still very current in my life.
- How did your time at the College help prepare you for where you are today?
Enrolling onto those courses and attending lessons helped me to understand the framework of the British educational systems and how to improve my socio-economic conditions in the British society. Breaking language barriers and understanding how the language works helped me to gain access to institutions and reach places that were unreachable before.
